ADSL |
Many people misunderstand exactly what ADSL broadband is and why there is such a variance in the monthly cost of a broadband connection, to explain in plain English we must split the subject up into 3 categories. |
| |
Bandwidth: |
This is normally quoted in the following sizes 128k, 256k, 512k, 1 and finally 2mg, these figures relate to the amount of data that can be down loaded per minute. In the early days of dial up modems this was restricted to 33k or 56k per minute.
The larger the number the faster the connection and the more data that can be transferred, the minimum we would recommend for the observation of moving images is a 512k with the ideal being a 1mg line |
Contention Ratio: |
This relates to the number of people in a given area sharing the pipeline to the internet service provider (ISP), typically most ISP's will share your line with 50 other users therefore you would have a contention ratio of 50-1.
So like your water connection if everyone in the neighbourhood turned on there taps at the same time to water pressure would drop and so to does the speed at which you are connected to the Internet. Innovative Networked Site Security provide a contention ratio of just 25-1 |
Static IP address: |
The Internet is made up of millions of computers all around the planet, in order to locate a specific PC it must have an address that other computers use to find it, this is called an IP address, most ISP's assign rolling IP addresses, which is all that is needed for you to surf the Internet.
To dial into your home or business you will need an ADSL broadband connection with a static IP address so that you can locate your system from anywhere in the world.
All Innovative Networked Site Security ADSL broad band connections provide a contention ratio of just 25-1 with a static IP address and unlimited download bandwidth connected to a 4 port 128 bit encrypted modem/router. |
