New policy on Police response to intruder alarm systems |

The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) released a new policy on Police response to monitored security systems on 1st January 2001. The aim of these changes is to reduce the number of false alarms that the Police attend. The new policy places great emphasis on the use of Confirmed Alarm Technology. This section of the site outlines the effect this policy will have on you as well as offering you a free security audit to discuss the methods available for minimising false alarms.
All Police forces in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be implementing the policy, however regional variations have been announced by the different forces as well as different commencement dates. The Policy for police response in Scotland has also been announced. |

The new ACPO policy |

Police response is dependent on the number of false alarms policed in any rolling 12 month period. This is an area where ACPO have tightened the rules.
As with the old policy, systems will still have to be free of false calls for a three month period to regain
Level 1 response.
In addition to gain reinstatement after Response is withdrawn a system must be upgraded to include alarm confirmation technology.
Alarm confirmation technology is also a requirement for any new monitored system installed after
1st October 2001. |
